US*1 signals Michter's own top-tier barrel selection — not every barrel earns the designation, and the ones that don't are sold off rather than bottled under the Michter's name. It's a quality mark the distillery applies to itself before a bottle ever reaches a shelf.

US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon — rich caramel and vanilla from new charred oak, smooth enough to sip neat.
US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye — drier and spicier than the bourbon, matured the same fire-charred way. The correct base for a Manhattan.
US*1 Original Sour Mash — a distinct mash bill and process from the bourbon, giving a different balance of sweetness and grain character.
US*1 Unblended American Whiskey — no grain neutral spirit added, unlike some blended American whiskeys. A rarer, more traditional style.
Which One Should You Buy?
For sipping neat: the Kentucky Straight Bourbon — the most classically balanced of the range.

How to Drink It
Neat or over one large ice cube. Since none of these are chill-filtered, a splash of water can bring out more aroma than it would in a filtered whiskey — worth trying both ways.

What does "unblended" mean on the American Whiskey label? It means no grain neutral spirit has been added — some products labeled "American whiskey" contain a significant amount of it. Michter's US*1 Unblended contains none.
Why does Michter's avoid chill filtration? Chill filtration removes compounds that can cause cloudiness when a whiskey is cold, but it strips some flavor along with them. Skipping it keeps more of the whiskey's natural character, at the cost of possible haze with ice or water — a sign of quality, not a flaw.
