The Distinction That Matters: Sweet or Dry

Italian sparkling wine looks identical on a shelf and tastes nothing alike. This is the one thing worth getting right before you buy.

• Asti (Martini Asti Spumante, Cinzano Asti DOCG) — sweet. 100% Moscato from Piedmont, made under DOCG rules, Italy's strictest classification. Around 7.5% ABV, roughly half a standard wine.
• Prosecco (Martini Prosecco DOC, Cinzano Cuvée Storica) — dry. 100% Glera from the Veneto, crisp green apple and pear. The correct base for a spritz or a Bellini.
• Sparkling Rosé (Martini) — lightly dry, sitting between the two, with red berry fruit.

Which One Should You Buy?

• For a toast where you don't know the room: Prosecco — Asti will strike half the guests as too sweet.
• For dessert or a sweet-toothed crowd: Asti.
• For an aperitivo or an Aperol Spritz: Prosecco DOC.

Serving in Philippine Weather

Very cold, 6 to 8°C — at least three hours in the ref, or twenty minutes in a bucket of ice and water, which chills far faster than ice alone.
