Absolut

Absolut is made in one place and only one place: Åhus, in southern Sweden. The winter wheat, the water from a deep well beneath the town, the distillation — all of it happens within a few kilometres. The company calls this "one source", and it is unusual: most large vodka brands blend spirit bought in from multiple distilleries.

Continuous Distillation, No Added Sugar

Absolut is distilled continuously rather than in batches, which produces the consistency it is known for — the bottle you buy today tastes like the one you bought two years ago. It also carries no added sugar, unlike some vodkas that use a little to soften the finish. What you taste is the grain and the distillation.

What We Stock

• Absolut Blue — the original. Clean, full-bodied for a vodka, and neutral by design. The base for anything where the spirit should not announce itself.
• Absolut Kurant — blackcurrant, or svarta vinbär. It grows wild across Sweden and ripens in July when the country stops work and goes on holiday. Tart rather than syrupy.
• Absolut Lime — all-natural lime, no added sugar. The point is you can stop cutting limes: a vodka soda needs nothing but ice and soda.

How to Serve It

Straight from the freezer in a small glass, or as the base of a Bloody Mary, Moscow Mule or Cosmopolitan. The flavoured expressions are dry rather than sweet, which is why they work in a highball where a sweetened vodka would not.

Which Absolut Should You Buy?

• For cocktails and mixing generally: Blue.
• For a vodka soda with no prep: Lime.
• For something tart and different: Kurant, with soda and a squeeze of lime.
