American wine from Sutter Home, based in St. Helena in California's Napa Valley — the winery that accidentally invented White Zinfandel in the 1970s, when a stuck fermentation left unexpected sweetness in what was meant to be a dry rosé. Which One Should You Buy?

• New to wine, or want something sweet and easy: White Zinfandel or one of the Moscatos.

Reds at 16 to 18°C — twenty minutes out of the ref. Whites, rosé and Moscatos colder, 6 to 10°C, straight from the ref.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is White Zinfandel a white wine?
No — it's made from red Zinfandel grapes, but the skins are removed early in fermentation, leaving only a pale pink color. It's technically a rosé, despite the name.
