The Botanist is made at Bruichladdich — an Islay whisky distillery — and it is built from 22 botanicals hand-foraged on the island itself, layered over nine classic gin botanicals. The foraging is done by a local botanist, which is where the name comes from.
Islay is a small, wind-scoured island better known for peated whisky. That the same place produces a gin this floral and herbal is the point of the bottle.

How to Serve
The 46% matters here: it means the botanicals survive dilution, so this holds up in a G&T where softer gins get washed out. Use a plain tonic and a light garnish — rosemary or a lemon twist — rather than a flavoured tonic that would compete.
It also makes an outstanding martini, and it is one of the few gins genuinely worth sipping neat over a large cube.
