Description
Kurant is blackcurrant — svarta vinbär in Swedish — and it is a more specific choice than it looks. Blackcurrant grows wild across Sweden and in nearly every country garden, ripening in July when the country largely stops work and goes on holiday. It is the flavour of a Swedish summer, which is why Absolut picked it.
The flavour is distilled in rather than added afterwards, and like the rest of the range it carries no added sugar. That keeps it tart rather than syrupy — closer to the fruit than to a cordial.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Ripe blackcurrant, a faint leafy sharpness
- Palate: Tart berry over clean wheat vodka, not sweet
- Finish: Crisp, dry, fruit fading cleanly
How to Serve
With soda and a squeeze of lime, over plenty of ice. It also makes a very good Kurant Cosmopolitan, and works with tonic if you want something drier than the soda version.

Questions
Is it sweet?
No. There is no added sugar, so it reads as tart blackcurrant rather than a liqueur. People expecting a sweet berry vodka are often surprised.
What mixes best with it?
Soda water and lime is the cleanest. Lemonade if you want it sweeter, tonic if you want it drier.
