Description
Michter's batches this bourbon in tanks that hold a maximum of twenty barrels. That number is the whole story. Large producers blend hundreds of barrels at once, which lets a weak barrel disappear into the average. At twenty, there is nowhere to hide — every barrel has to be good on its own.
The distillery is also unusual in filling its barrels at a low entry proof. Less water added later means a richer, rounder spirit, at the cost of yield. It is an expensive way to make bourbon and it is the reason this bottle sits where it does on price.

Tasting Notes
- Nose: Vanilla, caramel corn, soft baking spice
- Palate: Rounded and gently sweet — butterscotch, stone fruit, oak arriving late

How to Serve
Neat first, to see what you have. Then over one large cube. It makes an excellent Old Fashioned, though at this price an everyday bourbon will do that job nearly as well — the detail here shows up when you drink it slowly.

Questions
How is it different from the Sour Mash?
The Bourbon follows the legal bourbon definition — at least 51% corn, new charred oak. The Sour Mash uses a grain bill that fits neither bourbon nor rye rules. The Bourbon is the sweeter, more familiar of the two.
Is "small batch" meaningful here?
Usually the term is marketing with no definition behind it. Michter's attaches a number to it — twenty barrels maximum — which is unusually small and genuinely constrains what they can release.
