In 1824 George Smith took the first legal distilling licence in the Glenlivet valley, in a region that ran almost entirely on illicit whisky. His neighbours were not pleased — he carried a pair of pistols for years afterwards. Every legal Scotch distillery since traces back to that decision.
The 12 Year Old is the house style: first matured in traditional oak, then finished in American oak casks that give the vanilla sweetness and the smoothness the distillery is known for.

How to Serve
Neat, in a nosing glass, with a few drops of water. This is one of the easiest malts to drink without any preparation at all — no smoke, no heavy sherry, nothing to acclimatise to. It also holds up in a Highball with soda, which is useful in this climate.
