Charles Tanqueray was experimenting with orange gin in the 1880s; his notes survived, and Flor de Sevilla is built from them. It uses bitter Seville oranges — the marmalade orange, not the sweet eating kind — which is the whole difference between this and the confected orange gins crowding the shelf.
Bitter oranges bring a marmalade edge that keeps it from tipping into squash. Sweetness with an argument behind it.

Is it sweet?
Less than most flavoured gins. Seville oranges are bitter, so it lands closer to marmalade than to orange cordial. People who dislike sweet gins usually get on with this one.
Can I use it in place of regular Tanqueray?
In a G&T or a spritz, yes. In a dry martini, no — the orange dominates and you lose the juniper structure the drink needs.
