Named for the Men Who Turned the Barley by Hand
"Monkey shoulder" was the name for a repetitive strain injury that maltmen developed from turning barley by hand with a shovel, day after day. The whisky is named in their honour — which is a considerably better story than most brand names have.
It is a blended malt: three Speyside single malts married together, with no grain whisky at all. Batch 27 refers to the batch size — twenty-seven casks at a time.
