Foreign Extra Stout is the Guinness built to survive a sea voyage. When Guinness began exporting from Dublin in the 1800s, extra hops were added to keep the beer in condition on long journeys — and the result was a stout considerably stronger and more bitter than the draught most people know.
At 7.5% it is roughly half again the strength of standard Guinness, with roasted barley giving a bittersweet balance and a full-flavoured natural bite.
