Black Bush contains a notably high proportion of malt whiskey, matured predominantly in Oloroso sherry casks before being married with a smaller amount of grain whiskey.
That sherry maturation is what separates it from Bushmills Original. Where the Original is light and honeyed, Black Bush is darker, richer and driven by dried fruit — and it is one of the better-value sherried whiskeys on any shelf.

Neat, in a nosing glass. The sherry character is the reason to buy it, and ice suppresses exactly that — a few drops of water is better. It also makes a rich, unusual Old Fashioned.

The casks. Original uses bourbon and sherry casks and lands light, honeyed and easy. Black Bush is predominantly Oloroso sherry with far more malt — darker, richer and considerably more to it. If you like sherried Scotch, start here.
