The Man Who Made Rum Drinkable On Its Own
Bacardi's story starts in Santiago de Cuba in 1862, where Don Facundo Bacardí Masó did something nobody had bothered with: he filtered and aged rum to make it worth drinking neat. Rum until then was rough seafarers' spirit. The company left Cuba in 1960 and rebuilt in Puerto Rico, where most Bacardi is made today.
Gold is that founding idea in its simplest form — light rum rested up to two years in oak, which softens it and gives it colour without turning it heavy.
