Description
Bacardi's story starts in Santiago de Cuba in 1862, where Don Facundo Bacardí Masó did something nobody had bothered with before: he filtered and aged rum to make it drinkable on its own. Rum until then was rough seafarers' spirit. The company left Cuba in 1960 and rebuilt in Puerto Rico, where most Bacardi is made today.
Gold is that founding idea in its simplest form — light rum rested up to two years in oak, which softens it and gives it colour without turning it heavy.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Vanilla, light oak, a touch of honey
- Palate: Smooth and mellow, caramel sweetness, gentle spice
- Finish: Clean and warm, short
How to Serve
The workhorse of a rum shelf. Rum and coke is what most of this bottle will become, and it does that job better than white rum because the oak gives it something to hold onto. Also good in a dark 'n' stormy variation, or over ice with lime.
