Black Barrel takes Jameson's triple-distilled Irish whiskey and matures it in barrels that have been charred a second time. Double charring opens up the wood and fires the barrel back into life, pulling out far more vanilla and caramel than a single char would.
It also uses a higher proportion of small-batch pot still whiskey than standard Jameson, which is where the extra richness and spice comes from.
