Where it sits: the earlier release of Glenmorangie's core expression, before it was re-launched as a 12 Year Old. Same whisky, same bourbon-cask character, the previous age statement and packaging — and once these are gone, they are gone.
First released more than 175 years ago, The Original built its reputation on mellow tones and delicacy of flavour. It is distilled in the tallest copper stills in Scotland — roughly giraffe height — and that matters: only the lightest vapours reach the top of the still, which is why Glenmorangie is floral and citrus-led where shorter stills give heavier spirit.
Ten years in bourbon casks. A rush of citrus on arrival, then layers of orange, honey and creamy vanilla with bursts of peach.

How to Serve
Neat, in a tulip-shaped nosing glass to concentrate the floral aromatics. A few drops of water opens the citrus. Delicate enough that ice costs you something.
