It is a different spirit — made in Oaxaca rather than Jalisco, from espadín agave rather than Blue Weber, and roasted in earth-lined pits over hot rocks before fermentation. The smoke comes from that roasting. It is a production method, not a flavouring.
"Joven" means unaged, so nothing sits between you and that pit-roasted character.
